Waikuku School Sports!

Hi there netball fans!!

We are Sophie and Stevie-lee. We play netball for the Waikuku Allstars. Our school has two teams, one for the 8&9 year olds and one for the older nine year olds and all the ten year olds.

So far the Waikuku Winners (the younger ones) have won all of their four games!!

The Waikuku Allstars have won all but one game so we are doing very well!!

During the winter we play after school on a Friday at Dudley Park , with the Winners playing in the first round and the Allstars play later on in the afternoon. We’d like to thank Chris down at the Waikuku Beach store for donating the player of the day awards during the season.

Sophie of Waikuku School interviews pupils about what they think of the new senior playground…………..

Cassie’s thoughts on “The new playground”

I like it because it has a chain type climbing frame, mini abseiling wall and tightrope chain.

I also think that the flying fox is too low, two of the climbing walls that are similar are next to each other.

There are also two fireman’s poles which are really fun. The chain climbing frame is also really fun because you can have races up, down and across it. I like the chain tightrope because you have the option of  holding on to the sides or not holding onto the sides.

I like playing busted, tag, hot lava , follow the leader and passing the ball o and fro.

On the new playground I have learnt to abseil better and how to swing from ring to ring to get to another platform.

Sophie of Waikuku School interviews herself about what she thinks of the new playground:

I think that it is good to have more space to play and the playground itself is fun to play on.

I enjoy playing Busted, tag, hot lava tag, follow the leader and throwing a ball to each other.

I have so far learnt on this playground how to swing to ring to ring and to climb up rock walls.

I also enjoy walking on the chain tightrope and climbing up the blue chain climbing chain.

Art Competition

Recently Waikuku School participated in an art competition based around the theme: My Place, My Time, How I See Myself and the World Around Me.

The students produced many different art works, ranging from dye to paint to construction. Mary and Steve Bessant were kind enough to come down and judge the art works.

Congratulations to Callum for his art piece called "Wild and Wacky" and Ned  for his dye piece called "My House Boat".  Callum's and and Ned's art work will be displayed in the Christchurch Art Gallery. Well done!!
